Payroll & Wage

Minimum wage

As of 2024, the minimum wage in Argentina is set at ARS 202,800 per month, which is approximately $273 CAD based on current exchange rates.

Overtime

The maximum number of working hours in Argentina is 8 hours per day or 48 hours per week. Overtime must not exceed 3 hours per day.

Social security

Argentina maintains very high inflation rates, the fixed amounts may vary from month to month.

Taxes

Leave entitlements

Vacation

Employees are entitled to 10 working days (14 calendar days) of paid time off (PTO) each year. The accrual of PTO varies based on the duration of employment. Before completing 6 months of service, employees will earn 1 day of annual leave for every 20 working days.

Parental leaves

Maternity leave:

Female employees are entitled to 90 days of maternity leave with full  pay, at least 30 days of which should be taken before childbirth.  Commonly, the leave is split 45 days on either side of the delivery. The maternity leave is paid by the employer at 100%, but is reimbursed by social security system.


Paternatiy leave:

Fathers are entitled to 2 weeks of paternity leave in the event of childbirth or adoption. Paternity leave is funded by the employer.


Other:

  • Marriage: 10 calendar days

  • Death of spouse, common-law partner, children, or parents: 3 calendar days

Terminations

Notice period

The minimum statutory notice period for an employer to terminate an employment contract, with or without cause, is 10 days for employees with less than one year of service and 30 days for those with one year or more of service.

Severance pay

An employee whose contract is terminated without just cause is entitled to severance pay, calculated as one month’s salary for each year of service, with partial years exceeding three months counted as a full year. Additionally, any unused leave must be compensated in the employee’s final salary payment.

Probation pediod

In Argentina, the maximum length of a probationary period is six months. During the probationary period, either the employer or the employee can end the contract with limited notice, and no severance pay is required.
